The statement was made by Bruno Angelet, Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Viet Nam at the second high-level meeting of the Viet Nam Energy Partnership Group (VEPG) in Ha Noi on November 26.

The highlights of the meeting are the policy recommendations put forward by the VEPG’s technical working groups (TWGs) with the aim of promoting the development of Viet Nam’s energy sector in five priority areas, including renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy sector restructuring, access to energy, and energy data and statistics.

Ousmane Dione, World Bank (WB) Country Director for Vietnam, also affirmed the WB’s pledge to provide support for Viet Nam to bring sustainable, clean, and trustworthy energy sources with reasonable prices to all citizens, including technical and policy consultation, direct investment assistance, and measures to minimize risks, among others.

There are five measures that Viet Nam needs to implement at the same time, including developing renewable energy power, promoting energy saving, promoting energy development from gas, exchanging and trading electricity with Laos and the southern part of China, and reforming the power industry, he said.

In response, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An stated that these policy recommendations are suitable and useful for the building of Viet Nam’s energy development policies in the time ahead.

The VEPG was established in June 2017 aiming to effectively connect and combine the international support for Viet Nam’s energy industry. The group works towards the effective use of international support for sustainable energy development in Viet Nam, in line with the Vietnamese law and the international treaties to which Viet Nam is a signatory.
