PM asks for forth measures to address coastal erosion in central provinces

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked to urgently realize forth measures and consider launching long-term to ensure the effectiveness of preventing coastal erosion for 13 central coastal provinces.

The PM made that statement at a meeting on coastal erosion and sedimentation of the coastal and river mouth areas in the central coastal provinces from Nghe An to Binh Thuan on November 7 in Ha Noi.

Speaking at the meeting, the PM highlighted the role of seas to the nation’s development, adding that 60% of the nation’s GDP are attributed to contributions of coastal cities and provinces, requiring central provinces to encourage local people to protect the maritime environment.

He proposed socializing resources in addressing coastal erosion and sedimentation of the coastal and river mouth areas issues as well as applying advanced technology in such fields as embankment, land encroachment and land submerged by sea rising levels.

PM Phuc highlighted the spirit of protecting the lives and assets of people and cultural heritages and minimizing damages at affected areas, requesting to launch long-term measures for local socio-economic development.

He assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to join hand with other relevant ministries and agencies to allocate the capital resources for localities as well as ensure safety, effectiveness, anti-wastefulness in realizing natural calamity prevention projects.

Besides the State capital, it is necessary to mobilize international resources, including the Official Development Assistance, he added, stressing the necessity to fight corruption in launching natural calamity prevention projects.
