European enterprises optimistic about VN’s business, investment environment

VGP - The Business Climate Index (BCI) released by the European Chamber of Commerce in Viet Nam (EuroCham) for third quarter stood at 81 points, the second highest level since late 2016.

European companies have shown their optimism about their business activities in Viet Nam in both the third and fourth quarters, according to the EuroCham’s survey which collected more than 200 feedback from its members.

EuroCham member businesses reported good performance between July and September, with 57% describing it as “good” and 10% as “excellent”. Only 8% gave negative responses.

Regarding their outlook for the fourth quarter, the respondents remain optimistic with nearly 60% believing that their business situation will be “good” and another 11% answering “excellent”. 

Members in the EuroCham were optimistic about the prospects of Viet Nam’s macro-economy with 58% forecasting as “sustainability and improvement” and 32% said as “unchanged”. 

In the survey, more than half of the interviewed firms said they will expand their workforce in the fourth quarter, including 41.9% with “moderate increase”  and 8.4% with “significant increase”.

The same rate of European companies said they will increase investment this quarter with 40.9% anticipating a “moderate increase” and 10.8% expecting a “significant increase”. Only 6% plan a reduction in their investment.

Regarding revenue forecasts, more than 70% of leaders from EuroCham businesses expects to achieve the “significant increase” (15.3%) and “moderate increase” (56.2%) in the fourth quarter of 2018. 

EuroCham Co-Chairman Nicolas Audier said the BCI has manifested the trust of the European enterprises for Viet Nam’s business and investment environment.
