VN wishes early ratification of trade, investment deals with EU

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc expects Romania will help boost early signing and ratification of trade and investment deals with the European Union at his reception for Romanian Minister of Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship Stefan Radu Oprea on Tuesday.

The two deals, namely free and investment protection agreement (FTA) and investment protection agreement (IPA) were adopted by the European Commission on October 17.

So far, Viet Nam has signed or joined talks on 16 FTAs, opening up vast opportunities for both Vietnamese and Romanian businesses, said the Government chief.

He suggested the two countries’ inter-governmental committee to figure out concrete measures to further boost the bilateral ties, especially business-to-business partnership.

For his part, Minister Stefan Radu Opera briefed about the outcomes of his earlier meetings with Vietnamese officials, including Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh.

He expressed his belief that both sides still have great potential to lift up the two-way trade value to US$500 million in the near future from the current US$200 million.

The Romanian official pledged to accelerate cooperation with Viet Nam in such fields like expressway and hospital development and welcome Vietnamese workers to the European country.

The same day, PM Phuc also received French lawyer William Bourdon who has extended active support to the Viet Nam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin./.
