PM meets with Japanese parliament leaders

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had separate meetings with Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower house of the Japanese parliament), Tadamori Oshima, and President of the House of Councillors (Upper house), Chuichi Date, in Tokyo on October 10, as part of his ongoing visit to Japan.

At the meetings, PM Phuc expressed his delights at the vigorous, comprehensive and substantial development of Viet Nam-Japan relations after 45 years of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties, as well as the positive developments in parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

He affirmed his wish to develop the Viet Nam-Japan ties in a deeper and more comprehensive manner on the basis of the obtained achievements and in accordance with the interests and aspirations of the two nations’ people.

* Meeting with Lower house Speaker Oshima, PM Phuc asked the House to accelerate all-level exchanges and meetings, especially at the high level, and the sharing of legislative experience between the two parliaments, in addition to furthering cooperation in agriculture and labor and between localities, supporting the increasing reception of Vietnamese interns, and strengthening cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Oshima highly appreciated the superior and substantial developments of Viet Nam-Japan relations over the past few years, affirming that the House of Representatives of Japan attaches importance to ties with Viet Nam and wishes to facilitate the Viet Nam-Japan extensive strategic partnership across all spheres.

* At a meeting with Upper house President Chuichi Date, PM Phuc spoke highly of the House’s contributions to enhancing multifaceted cooperation between Viet Nam and Japan.

Viet Nam always treasures and effectively uses the official development assistance (ODA) capital offered by Japan, he said, asking the Japanese parliament to consider providing ODA at a more suitable preferential rate and pay attention to boosting cooperation in agriculture and labor and between localities of the two countries.

The PM voiced his wish that the two parliament bodies would uphold their role of monitoring and encouraging the two Governments to actively implement the signed agreements, while strengthening bilateral coordination and cooperation in regional and international inter-parliamentary forums.

Chuichi Date expressed his pleasure to receive PM Phuc and the high-level Vietnamese delegation to visit Japan as the two countries are celebrating the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties. He applauded the Vietnamese Government’s directions and the economic and external relations achievements that Viet Nam has obtained.

The House of Councillors attaches importance to further enhancing extensive and all-around cooperation between the two countries, while supporting the Japanese Government to continue its cooperation and support for Viet Nam in socio-economic development, he affirmed.

Those were the last activities of PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on his trip to Tokyo for the 10th Japan-Mekong Summit and for a visit to Japan.
