Mr. Edward Vaizey made that statement at his meeting with Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue on October 5 in Ha Noi during his working visit to Viet Nam.

He extended condolences over the passing of State President Tran Dai Quang and former Party General Secretary Do Muoi.

Regarding the bilateral relationship, he highly spoke of Viet Nam’s economic development over the recent years, affirming that the British Government attaches importance to the role of Viet Nam in fields of cooperation and development.

The UK is carrying out procedures to leave the EU, he said, adding that the benefits between the two nations in the EU-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement must be maintained at another agreement between Viet Nam and the UK.

Currently, the UK is still a member of the EU. Thus, the country is willing to boost commitments reached between the EU and Viet Nam, Mr. Edward Vaizey confirmed.

He expressed thanks to the Vietnamese Government for actively backing the UK to get access to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Mr. Edward Vaizey reported the outcomes of his working session with the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction and agreed to supply non-refundable aid from the Prosperity Fund for the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction to launch smart buildings and cities in Viet Nam.

For his side, Deputy PM Hue affirmed that the Vietnamese Government advocates and is willing to support the UK to join the CPTPP.

Referring to the bilateral trade value of US$6.1 billion and the UK’s direct investment in Viet Nam of US$3.7 billion, Mr. Hue suggested the UK expand cooperation and investment in Viet Nam in finance and banking.

Viet Nam’s ministries and agencies are ready to tackle obstacles for the British businesses to invest in Viet Nam, he said, adding that Viet Nam hopes to receive more capital from the Prosperity Fund to realize projects and export more Vietnamese products to present at Mark & Spencer in the UK.
