Estonia’s e-government building experience offers good lessons for Viet Nam: PM

The Vietnamese PM made the remarks at a reception for visiting Estonian Foreign Minister Sven Mikser in Ha Noi on September 14, during which he affirmed that Viet Nam welcomes Estonian experts to support its process of building an e-government.

The leader spoke highly of the effective coordination between the two countries at multilateral forums, calling on Estonia to facilitate the European Union’s signing of the free trade agreement (FTA) with Viet Nam.

Bilateral trade revenues still remain modest, PM Phuc said, voicing his hopes that after the visit, Estonia would review and strengthen measures to accelerate two-way trade turnover and open up new cooperation spaces between the two sides.

Estonian FM Sven Mikser said he hoped that the visit would create a new impulse for the enhancement of bilateral ties as the cooperation potential remains huge, especially in terms of e-government building and e-governance. 

The digital technology will help the Vietnamese government speed up the building of an e-government, strengthen transparency, and saving budgets, he said, affirming that Estonia is willing to share its experience with Viet Nam in the field.

Emphasizing Estonia’s support of the free trade trend, the minister pledged Estonia’s efforts so that the EU could accelerate the signing of its FTA with Viet Nam, adding that Estonia will be one of the first countries to ratify the document.

PM Phuc agreed with Mikser’s stance that all countries need to respect international law and the United Nations’ conventions. 

Regarding the East Sea issue, the PM emphasized Viet Nam’s consistent viewpoint of ensuring peace, stability, and maritime and aviation freedom, as well as complying with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982.
