DPM joins discussion on Asia’s geopolitical prospects

Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh made that statement on September 13 at the discussion on Asia’s geopolitical prospects within the framework of the World Economic Forum on ASEAN. 

Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Minh supposed that the fourth industrial revolution has created big opportunities for development and challenges, adding that the region is facing traditional and non-traditional security issues such as sea dispute, climate change and cyber security. 

Affirming Viet Nam’s guideline on advocating multi-lateral commercial system, Mr. Minh said that the nation is joining a number of high-quality multi-lateral and bilateral trade agreements, making contributions to the international economic connection trend. 

The Vietnamese leader highlighted the role of education and training to equip skills for laborers, especially young ones to meet and take advantages of opportunities brought by the fourth industrial revolution. 

Participants in the discussion included Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh, the Republic of Korea’s FM Kang Kyung-Wha and Japanese FM Taro Kono. 

At the discussion, delegates highly spoke of the central role of ASEAN in the regional architecture which is being formed and the regional strategic initiatives. They also expressed concerns over instability of the regional geopolitics, the rise of protectionism, nationalism; trade war and territorial disputes which create risks on regional peace, security and development.
