Regarding the meaning of his official visit to Viet Nam, the Algerian diplomat said that the visit heads to strengthen the bilateral relations and regular consultation between the two countries.

The visit will create an opportunity for the two sides to evaluate their relations, especially in fields of economics, trade and investment to seek for measures to consolidate and develop the relationship in the upcoming time.

It also manifests the aspirations of the two sides’ leaders, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and State President Tran Dai Quang to upgrade the bilateral relationship to a higher level.

When asked about the cooperative situations between the two nations in the future, Mr. Messahel hailed the achievements in the two countries’ diplomatic ties.

However, the two-way trade value in 2017 only reached US$360 million, which is mainly attributed to Viet Nam’s exports to Algeria.

He suggested the two sides enhance economic relations to match with the bilateral partnership and their potential.

The Minister referred to the 11th session of the Viet Nam-Algeria inter-governmental committee held in November 2017 in Algiers, proposing the two countries’ ministries and agencies realize commitments at the meeting and facilitate trade exchanges and investment between the two sides.

Mr. Messahel said that Algeria expressed delight on the effectiveness of consultations and coordination of activities between the two nations at international forums, especially at the Non-Aligned Movement.

Algeria and Viet Nam have shared viewpoints on international issues, agreeing to respect principles of international laws and the United Nations Charter such as self-determination of nations, settlement of disputes through peaceful and diplomatic measures and non-interference in internal affairs of other nations.
