DPM’s visit to upgrade VN-Romania relations more intensively, effectively

The diplomat told the press in an interview on the occasion of Deputy PM Minh’s official visit to Romania from July 6-7. 

Referring the meaning of the visit, the Ambassador said that over the recent 68 years, the two sides’ relations have been continuously strengthened. 

Romania advocated Viet Nam’s bid to run for a non-permanent seat at the UN Human Rights Council for 2014-2016 and to join the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). 

He expected that the visit will help connect the two economies and elevate their relationship to a new level. 

When asked about the relationship between Viet Nam and Romania, Mr. Cong said that the political trust between the two countries has always been continuously consolidated. The two sides have maintained high-level visits and meetings, and increased delegation exchanges between ministries and agencies.

Both sides have supported each other in the international arena and at multilateral forums like the United Nations (UN), the Francophone community, and the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). 

As the rotary presidency of the EU in the first half of 2019, Romania will work as a bridge between Viet Nam and other EU member countries and Viet Nam will make efforts in supporting Romania to reinforce its ties with ASEAN.

Viet Nam’s export turnover to Romania in the first four months of 2018 exceeded US$42 million, a year-on-year increase of 24.43%. 

The Ambassador hoped that the 16th meeting of the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation, which is scheduled to take place in the third quarter of 2018 in Bucharest, Romania, will be an impetus for trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. 

Viet Nam is one of Romania’s leading labor suppliers, with the number of Vietnamese guest workers in the country increasing from 300 to 1,500 within a year. 

A cooperation agreement in education signed during former Romanian PM Dacian Ciorlos’s visit to Viet Nam in 2016, which increased its scholarships to Viet Nam from 10 to 20 each year. Romania has so far trained more than 3,000 Vietnamese students and postgraduates of different majors.

The people-to-people exchanges between the two nations have been accelerated, which is attributed to the contributions from the Viet Nam-Romania Friendship Association and Romania-Viet Nam Friendship Association as well as the overseas Vietnamese community in Romania. 

The Vietnamese diplomat suggested the two countries enhance and expand cooperation in economics-trade, culture, education, culture, science-technology, tourism, agriculture and labor.
