The program, totally worth VND535 billion (US$23 million), will be implemented from 2016 to 2020 in the provinces and centrally-run cities with projects and establishments causing serious environmental pollution subject to the program’s support, pursuant to Decisions No. 1788/QD-TTg dated October 1, 2013, 1946/QD-TTg dated October 21, 2010, 57/2008/QD-TTg dated April 29, 2008, 1435/QD-TTg dated August 18, 2014, 174/2006/QD-TTg dated July 28, 2006, and 187/2007/QD-TTg dated December 3, 2007.

The program also targets the provinces and centrally-run cities with the newly emerging sites of pesticide residues, which are causing serious and extremely serious environmental pollution and affecting the people’s health and the country’s socio-economic development.

The general objectives of the program are to treat and address pollution, while improving and restoring the quality of the environment in public facilities and places, as well as at sites of pesticide residues and waste water from cities of second class or above, which are causing serious environmental degradation and pollution, aiming to prevent environmental pollution, ensure public health and contribute to the country’s sustainable development cause.

The specific objectives are to strive to handle environmental pollution of 30 unhygienic landfills causing serious environmental pollution by 2020; collect and incinerate residues of plant protection chemicals and drugs, and rehabilitate the environment in 70 seriously polluted residue sites; and invest in the construction of three daily-life wastewater treatment facilities from cities of fourth class or above.
