PM calls for WB’s continuous support for VN

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the World Bank (WB) to provide continuous capital and technical assistance, while building appropriate International Development Association (IDA) graduation transitional support mechanisms for Viet Nam, aiming to ensure the sustainable maintenance of the achievements obtained in socio-economic development and poverty reduction.

 The government leader made the remark during a June 27 reception for the WB Vice President for East Asia and Pacific, Victoria Kwakwa, who is attending the 6th Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF 6) in the central coastal city of Da Nang.

He highly appreciated the fast disbursement progress of the WB-financed capital sources, especially in the 2012-2016 period, stating that the Vietnamese government is encouraging localities and agencies to speed up the effective implementation of the projects.

Viet Nam will host the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF-ASEAN) this September, PM Phuc said, expressing his wish for the WB’s participation in such an important event.

Victoria Kwakwa congratulated Viet Nam on its high economic growth rate, especially in the first quarter of 2018, adding that by organizing the GEF 6 and many large international conferences in recent times, Viet Nam has demonstrated its increasing international prestige and position.

The WB is researching ways to help Viet Nam’s big groups to access the WB loans without having to meet the requirements set for borrowing countries, she said, pledging to create favorable conditions for Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City and other Vietnamese cities to approach the WB’s credits.

Mentioning the PM’s proposal for the WB’s support in renewable energy development, Kwakwa said that the WB wishes to cooperate with Viet Nam in such a potential sphere.
