VN respects freedom of belief and religion

VGP – Viet Nam’s consistent policy is to respect and ensure citizens’ rights to freedom of belief and religion, which has been clearly prescribed in the country’s 2013 Constitution and its law system, and has been respected in reality, said Vietnamese Foreign Ministry (FM) spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

The FM spokesperson made the statement on June 8 while answering reporters’ questions about Viet Nam’s response to the 2007 Annual Report on International Religious Freedom released recently by the U.S. Department of State.

Hang stated that over the past few years, Viet Nam has made constant efforts to improve the system of laws and policies on belief and religion, especially including the adoption of the Law on Belief and Religion, and decrees guiding the implementation of the Law on Belief and Religion. The people’s religious and belief activities have been guaranteed with thousands of festivals and religious and belief activities held annually.

Viet Nam recognizes the U.S. Department of State’s mentioning some progress in ensuring and promoting religious and religious life in Viet Nam in its report, the FM spokesperson said, stating that the report, however, still continues to give some unobjective assessments and quotation of false information about Viet Nam.
