It came from their talks in Ha Noi on June 5 on the occasion of the Canadian Minister’s official visit to Viet Nam, which is meant to strengthen the friendship between the two nations’ Governments, armies and people.

The visit is also aimed at promoting the bilateral defense cooperation more effectively in line with the recently-established Comprehensive Partnership and making contributions to the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

At the talks, the two sides referred to international and regional issues of mutual concerns, evaluating the bilateral defense cooperation over the recent years and ways to enhance the relations in the upcoming time.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Defense welcomed Canada to continue support for Viet Nam in training and the UN peacekeeping activities.
After the talks, the two Ministers witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Military Training and Cooperation Program of Canada, which helps Vietnamese soldiers take part in training courses in Canada.

The MoU is regarded as a crucial landmark in the two nations’ bilateral defense cooperation, paving the way for further potential cooperation in the future.
