Fruits, vegetables exports up 16.4%

VGP – Viet Nam’s fruits and vegetables exports in May were estimated at US$304 million, raising the total export value in the first five months of 2018 to US$1.62 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.4%.

According to the statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the exports of fruits and vegetables reached US$1.27 billion and US$198 million, up 7.3% and 3.1%, respectively. 

China remained the largest fruits and vegetables importer of Viet Nam with US$988.9 million, accounting for 74.3% and up 30.1% against the same period last year. 

Other markets witnessed sharp increases such as the U.S. up 12.8%, Japan up 16.4% and the Republic of Korea up 13.5%. 

In May, Viet Nam’s imports of vegetables and fruits attained US$119 million, bringing the total import value in five months to US$575 million, up 15.3%.
