The event, themed “India-CLMV economic development: Collaboration for regional integration”, was organized in Cambodia for the first time and chaired by India.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Hung highly valued India’s consideration of ASEAN in general and CLMV in particular as one of the key partners in its Look East Policy, affirming the importance of organizing the event as an opportunity to boost regional integration between India and CLMV nations.

The Vietnamese official proposed all nations strengthen transport infrastructure connections, especially transport in India’s northeast region and Myanmar, the two important points to connect India with CLMV countries.

The countries should enhance institutional linkage by harmonizing trade investment and finance policies, he added.

The two-day event, from May 21-22, has attracted representatives from trade ministries, sectors, localities and big enterprises of India and those from the four countries.

Trade between India and the CLMV countries hit US$14.5 billion in 2017. India is the largest trade partner of the CLMV countries in South Asia.
