Master plan for Dien Bien’s socio-economic development through 2020 approved

VGP – The PM has approved a master plan for Dien Bien Province’s socio-economic development through 2020, vision to 2030.

Under the plan, Dien Bien will strive to lift its development level to the average level of the Northern mountainous provinces and gradually narrow gap of living standard with other regions across the country by 2020.

The province sets average GRDP goal of 7.2% per year between 2016 and 2030. By 2020, agriculture-forestry sector is expected to account for 18.52% of the local economy while industry-construction of and service sectors make up 26.4% and service of 55.08%  respectively.

Dien Bien plans to create as many as 7,800-8,200 jobs annually while reducing the ratio of multi-dimensional poor households down to 33% by 2020.

Forest coverage rate is expected to increase from 38.4% in 2015 to 42% by 2020.

By 2020, 99.5% of urban people will be provided with clean water and 84% of rural residents will be supplied with sanitary water.

In the next 10-15 years, the province will concentrate on developing key products such as rice, coffee, rubber, cattle raising, forest development and protection, ecotourism and community tourism.
