The project aims to improve the legal framework related to promoting and supporting the development of renewable energy sources in the smart power and grid system in Viet Nam, thereby contributing to achieving the Government’s objectives outlined in the national power development plan (PDP), the Green Growth Strategy (GGS), and the Green Growth Action Plan (GGAP), aiming to improve the quality of power and power supply trust in association with the sustainable development of power industry and the energy sector.

The main result of the project is to develop and improve the legal and policy framework to support the development of smart grid combined with renewable energy development and energy efficiency. Special attention will be paid to the field of information technology and communication applied in the management and operation of renewable energy sources, and the optimization of economical and efficient use of energy.

In addition, the project will work to enhance the capabilities related to the smart grid technology and renewable energy development for professional staff in state management units and experts in the power sector, towards forming a network of experts specialized in smart grid.

At the same time, it helps to boost cooperation and technology transfer between universities, institutes, and businesses of Viet Nam and Germany, thus contributing to developing renewable energy sources and promoting energy efficiency.

The project will be implemented in four years (2018-2022) on a national scale with a total investment of approximately EUR5.3 million, of which EUR5 million comes from the German Government’s non-refundable ODA, and nearly EUR300,000 is the counterpart capital from the Vietnamese side, which will be arranged by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, using the existing resources.
