VN supports Myanmar’s national reconciliation process

PM Phuc affirmed the Government of Viet Nam supports the Government of Myanmar in the national reconciliation and harmonization and in improving its position in the international arena.

The two leaders expressed their pleasure at the fine traditional ties since the two countries established diplomatic relations more than 40 years ago.

Especially, the pair agreed that the elevation of the bilateral ties to comprehensive partnership during Vietnamese Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong’s State visit to Myanmar has opened up new chapter for the two sides’ cooperation.

They shared the view that the bilateral political relationship has grown closer  through maintenance of high-level contacts and exchanges while economic cooperation has become increasingly deep. Viet Nam is the 7^th biggest foreign investor and the 11^th largest trade partner of Myanmar.

Bilateral defense and security cooperation have also been consolidated while cultural, sport, tourism, education cooperation and people-to-people exchanges have also been strengthened, making effective contribution to enhance mutual understanding and nurture the traditional ties between the two countries.

PM Phuc highly valued and urged to two countries to implement the outcomes reached during Myanmar State Councilor’s recent visit to Viet Nam.

The Government chief asked the two countries to soon convene the 9^th meeting of the Viet Nam-Myanmar Joint Commission in Viet Nam, sign new mechanisms and agreements to facilitate bilateral cooperation, and approve an action plan for deploying the Viet Nam-Myanmar comprehensive partnership for the period 2018-2023.

Regarding regional and international issues, the two leaders affirmed close coordination in ASEAN in order to strengthen intra-bloc solidarity and promote ASEAN central role.

Both sides vowed to continue active cooperation within the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Viet Nam (CLMV) and the Ayeyarwady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic  Cooperation Strategy  (ACMECS) mechanisms.

For the East Sea issue, the two countries shared the ASEAN’s common position on effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and striving for early conclusion of a practical and more-binding Code of Conduct (COC)./.
