Viet Nam’s agricultural sector has been constantly growing over recent years, with the country’s agro-forestry and fishery exports reaching a record high of more than US$36 billion in 2017, resulting in a trade surplus of over US$8.5 billion. This year, the sector has set a target of US$40 billion in its export revenues.

The miracle that Viet Nam has become a leading exporter of agricultural products is thanks to the unceasing efforts and creativity of 11 million farmer households and 24 million direct laborers throughout the country.

However, in addition to the achievements, Viet Nam’s agricultural sector is still facing numerous difficulties and challenges. The situation of scattered production still remains popular, while the productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness remain low, alongside the passiveness in production and the lack of close connections following the value chains.

The dialogue offers a useful and significant platform for the Government to directly hear the aspirations of farmers and explore their difficulties and obstacles, thereby taking relevant measures to facilitate their productions and promote the creativity of farmers in the context of extensive global integration.

* On the same morning, ahead of the conference, PM Phuc visited and presented gifts to the family of war invalid Tran Quoc Hanh in Hai Duong province’s Gia Loc district, while visiting the Hung Viet fruit and vegetable processing, packaging and preserving establishment, an outstanding production model of farmers in Hai Duong.
