Hoang Sa Exhibition House inaugurated in Da Nang

On an area of 1,296 sq m, the four-story exhibition house cost some VND40 billion (US$1.7 million). 

Its central area features the sovereignty column of the Hoang Sa Archipelago, built in 1938 when it was part of French Indochina, and reaches from the first floor to the third floor. Numerous documents and exhibits are on display to help visitors gain an insight into the geographical position and natural conditions of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago and also of Da Nang. 

The exhibits at the four-storey building are arranged into five topics: the geographic location and natural conditions of Hoang Sa in ancient documents dated before the Nguyen Dynasty and during the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945); historical evidence of Vietnam's sovereignty over the archipelago from 1954 to 1974, and from 1975 to the present.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chairman of the Da Nang city People’s Committee Huynh Duc Tho stressed that Hoang Sa is an inseparable part of Viet Nam.

He revealed that the construction is designed as an adaption of the seal for Vietnamese sovereignty under the Nguyen Dynasty with the aim to represent the connection between the past and present, while reaffirming that Viet Nam has established and exercised its sovereignty over the archipelago, at least from the rule of Nguyen Lords.

The exhibition house opens for the public from Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 11:30 in the morning and from 13:00 to 17:30 in the afternoon.

The exhibition house will help educate local residents, especially the younger generation, about patriotism and raise their sense of responsibility in the struggle to protect Viet Nam’s sovereignty over its sea and islands.
