HCM City seeks stronger trade, investment ties with Slovakia

VGP - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong in Ho Chi Minh City on March 26 received Governor of Bratislava region Juraj Droba.

At the reception, Droba affirmed that Bratislava region will do its utmost to bolster its ties with HCM City, especially in trade and tourism.

The region always welcomes Ho Chi Minh City’s enterprises and is willing to be a gateway for Vietnamese businesses to enter the European market, he said.

He also committed to becoming an ambassador introducing the image of Vietnamese land and people to Slovaks, and facilitating Slovak enterprises’ investment in Viet Nam.

Slovakia is currently running eight projects totalling US$245 million, ranking 35th out of the 122 nations and territories pouring capital into Viet Nam.

The Viet Nam-Slovakia Friendship Building – a symbol of the two countries’ solidarity and friendship – is located in Ho Chi Minh City. 

In turn, Chairman Phong said Ho Chi Minh City and Slovakia’s Bratislava region hold much potential to strengthen cooperation, as they share the similarity in their role in the respective country’s economic development.

He spoke highly of Droba’s working visit, stressing that this is an opportunity for both sides to boost cooperation in trade, investment and tourism.

Mr. Phong pledged that the city always creates all favourable conditions for foreign investors, including those from Slovakia.

The city hopes to cooperate with Bratislava region in the fields of garment and textiles, footwear, agricultural and aquatic product processing, and higher education cooperation in energy and agricultural research, and share experience in building smart cities and developing tourism, financial and banking system with the region, he added.
