The statement was made during the meeting between PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and New Zealand’s Speaker of the House of Representatives Trevor Mallard on March 13.

The two sides hailed the development of Viet Nam – New Zealand relations in recent years, especially heading to the two-way trade of US$1.7–2 billion by 2020.

They consented to soon upgrade the bilateral ties to the Strategic Partnership and boost cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, tourism, aviation connectivity and people-to-people exchanges.

Both sides agreed that the two parliaments need to increase the exchange of high-ranking visits, join hands in supervising the implementation of cooperative agreements and promote exchanges to increase knowledge and mutual belief between their people.

PM Phuc conveyed Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan’s invitation to Mallard to visit Viet Nam at a convenient time. Mr. Trevor Mallard referred to his invitation to Ms. Ngan to pay a visit to New Zealand soon.

After the meeting, PM Phuc and his entourage attended a banquet hosted by Speaker Mallard.
