PM cites Maori adage to talk about VN-New Zealand relationship

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc quoted an adage of the Maori people “Nau te raurau Naku te raurau Ka ora ai te iwi” at a banquet hosted by his New Zealand counterpart Jacinda Andern on March 13, affirming his belief that the Viet Nam-New Zealand relationship will reach a new height in line with the spirit of the proverb.

Thanking for the warm welcome by the PM, Government and people of New Zealand, the Vietnamese leader said that over recent years, under the leadership of PM Jacinda Andern, the highest growth rate of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) bloc has been recorded in New Zealand.

Hailing the talks with PM Jacinda Andern as a big success, he stated the both sides were happy to see the fruitful relationship between the two countries since their establishment of a comprehensive partnership in 2009.

Viet Nam and New Zealand have witnessed increasing political trust with many high-level visits and meetings, PM Phuc said, noting that the two sides have cooperated effectively with each other in negotiating and signing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which offers a great chance to accelerate bilateral economic cooperation, whilst creating a premise for the elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership in the near future.

Sharing PM Phuc’s view on the success of the talks between the two sides, PM Jacinda Andern affirmed that New Zealand considers Viet Nam as its strategic partner, expressing her hopes that the cooperative relations between the two countries would be elevated to new heights in the future.

A large number of Vietnamese young people have been pursuing academic study in New Zealand, which will help to further expand bilateral ties across many spheres, the host stated.
