PM asks Nghe An to become growth pole of North Central Coast

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged Nghe An to strive to double scale of its economy within the next five years by boosting business development, human potential utilization, and connectivity.

The Government chief stressed the point while attending the 10th meeting with investors conference in the central province of Nghe An on March 10, which drew the participation of local and foreign business representatives from such countries like Thailand, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Australia.

He also asked Nghe An to coordinate with other two central provinces of Ha Tinh and Thanh Hoa to become a growth pole of the North Central Coast and the nation. 

In the short term, Nghe An should focus on developing Thanh Thuy into an international border gate in order to make it a key trading point between Viet Nam and other ASEAN countries namely Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar, PM Phuc said.

The province needs to create favorable conditions for private investors to join seaport, airport, and industrial infrastructure development projects while upgrading facilities of the Vinh airport so that foreign investors and tourists could take direct flights to Nghe An.

PM Phuc also suggested Nghe An beef up the progress of a highway project to reduce travel time from Ha Noi to Nghe An to 2.5 hours.

At present, Nghe An is home to 11,000 companies, which is still modest compared to the aspiration and history of the land.

At the event, a number of investors shared their future investment plans in Nghe An.

Thailand-based WHA Hemaraj said it will begin construction of Hemaraj industrial zone in Nghi Loc District with total registered capital of around US$1 billion. Meanwhile, Vietnamese FLC Group said it will pour VND 10,000 billion in ecotourism, high-tech agriculture, and mineral exploitation projects in the province.

Representatives of the two companies said they have chosen Nghe An as it has a plentiful and manpower and more importantly the local authorities have showed consistent efforts to reform administrative procedures offered support for them./.
