In the first two months of 2018, overseas shipment of agricultural products hit US$ 6.1 billion. Aquatic export valued 1.2 billion, representing a year-on-year growth of 29.5%.

The agricultural sector is taking measures to abolish “yellow card’ imposed by the European Commission (EC) on Vietnamese fisheries as the final deadline is approaching on April 23.

The aquatic sector enjoys an opportunity to raise export turnover as Australia is considering removal of its ban on the import of uncooked Vietnamese shrimp products.

The cultivation sector was projected to earn over US$ 22 billion this year. For the first time within five years, Vietnamese rice export prices exceeded Thai ones. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Cong Tuan attributed the outcome to great effort of paddy sector in production restructuring towards better value.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that in 2018, besides China, Viet Nam will boost overseas shipment of agro-forestry-fishery products to the U.S., EU, ASEAN, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

Last year, agro-forestry-fishery exports jumped 2.94%. Export turnover fetched US$ 36.37 billion.

The sector set targets to expand 3.05% in 2018 and pocket US$ 40.5 billion of export turnover in 2018.

To fulfill the goals, the agricultural sector will continue to restructure; remove bottlenecks in land and capital resources; encourage policies and mechanisms to attract more investment; build chains from production, to processing, and consumption./.
