VN, India vow to fully realize high-level political commitments

VGP - Viet Nam and India have agreed to fully implement their high-level political commitments and continue deepening cooperation in various fields.

VN, India share long-lasting friendship, historical and cultural similarities

The agreement was reached during the talks between Vietnamese State President Tran Dai Quang and Indian PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday.

State President Quang extended congratulations to India for its great achievements, particularly high and sustainable economic growth and rising role and position of India in the region and the world.

Meanwhile, Indian PM Modi congratulated on Viet Nam’s national development achievements and on excellent performance as the host of the APEC Year 2017.

Both sides agreed to further foster delegation exchanges at all levels and in all channels and take breakthrough measures to increase the two-way trade value to US$15 billion by 2020 through diversifying exports, reducing trade barriers, consulting trade policies, and expanding aviation linkages.

Viet Nam expects more investments from India to such fields like energy, infrastructure development, education and information technology, said State President Quang.

Plan approved to diversify export markets

The two leaders agreed to step up defense-security cooperation, especially in English training, technology transfer, preferential credit, and combat of high-tech crimes.

State President Quang welcomed Indian Defense Minister’s visit to Viet Nam in 2018, calling for India’s further support and assistance for Viet Nam in the United Nations-led peacekeeping operations.

The two sides stressed the necessity to enhance youth’s understanding about the long-lasting cultural and religious ties between the two countries. State President Quang took the occasion to express thanks for India’s financial support to protect and preserve the My Son Sanctuary in Quang Nam province and Cham Temples in Ninh Thuan province.

Regarding regional and international issues of common concern, the two leaders shared the importance of peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and overflights.

They also emphasized the importance of settling disputes through peaceful measures on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and of full respect for diplomatic and legal processes.

The pair underscored the importance of full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and early conclusion of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC)."

PM Narendra Modi affirmed India will continue accelerating the “Act East" Policy in order to enhance cooperation with the Asia-Pacific region, in which Viet Nam has an important place.

Both sides agreed to continue mutual support at regional and international forums.

After the talks, State President Quang and Indian PM Modi witnessed the signing cooperation documents, including a Memorandum of Understanding on economic and trade cooperation between two countries’ trade and industry ministries.

Earlier the same day, Indian President Ram Nath Kovind hosted a welcome ceremony for State President Tran Dai Quang who is on three-day State visit to India. He is accompanied by Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh and several ministers and local leaders./.
