IPI soars 15.2% in first two months

VGP – The industrial production index went up 15.2% in the first two months of 2018, much higher than the 2.4% level of the same period last year.

Processing and manufacturing industries expanded 17.7%, a 13.2 percentage point increase; followed by electricity distribution and production (up 11.2%); mining (up 5.7%); water supply and sewage treatment (4.3%). 

Especially, production of electronic devices, computers, optical products surged by 38.3%; metal ores (up 21.1%).  

Meanwhile, exploitation of crude oil and natural fuel suffered a drop of 5%. 

In the first two months, provincial IPIs of 63 provinces and cities saw year-on-year increases especially in Bac Ninh (up 45.1%); Quang Nam (up 16.9%), Vinh Phuc (up 14.1%); Ha Tinh (up 164.4%).  

As of February 1, 2018, the number of laborers in industrial enterprises witnessed a year-on-year growth of 3.6% of which the State sector saw a 1.3% decline; the non-State sector experienced a 4% growth; and the FDI sector recruited additional 4.3% workers./.
