Viet Nam gives top priority to relations with Laos

VGP – Viet Nam always attaches importance and gives highest priority to consolidating and enhancing the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Laos.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the above statement on Monday at separate meetings with Laos’ Party General Secretary and President  Bounnhang Vorachith and NA Chairwoman Pany Yathotou.

The Government chief, who is in Laos to co-chair the 40th meeting of the Viet Nam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee, stressed that the bilateral relationship is the valuable asset of the two nations’ revolutionary causes.

PM Phuc suggested the two nations continue tightening cooperation in such fields like diplomacy-politics, defense and security; building the shared borderline of peace, stability, cooperation and development; and accelerating communication and education on the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, especially among the youth.

Regarding the outcomes of the 40th meeting, PM Phuc said both sides reviewed bilateral cooperation over the past year and reached consensus on a wide range of issues.

The two sides signed 12 documents, including agreements on Government-to-Government cooperation plan for 2018, on energy and energy.

Lao Party leader Bounnhang Vorachith highly valued the efforts made by the two Governments in overcoming difficulties in order to continue deepening the bilateral ties over the past year.

He expressed his belief that the success of the 40th meeting of the Inter-Governmental Committee will serve as the basis for the two countries to fruitfully realize the Government-to-Government cooperation plan for 2018 as well as the Viet Nam-Laos Bilateral Cooperation Agreement between 2016 and 2020.

The same day, PM Phuc came to visit workers at the construction site of the new Headquarters of the Laos’ National Assembly.

Highlighting the importance of the Viet Nam-funded building as a symbol of the Viet Nam-Laos relationship, PM Phuc asked for ensuring the progress and quality of the project./.
