PM meets with regional leaders in India

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc held separate meetings with Cambodian PM Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Indonesian President Joko Widodo in New Delhi on January 26, during his trip to India to attend the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit and the 69th anniversary of India’s Republic Day.

During their meeting, PM Phuc and his Cambodian counterpart expressed pleasure at the fine development of economic cooperation between the two countries, with two-way trade increasing by 30% to approximately US$4 billion in 2017.

The two PMs agreed to direct ministries and sectors to facilitate the effective implementation of agreements reached at the 9th Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam (CLV) Development Triangle Area Summit in Siem Reap in November 2016, in addition to making practical preparations for the 10th summit, scheduled to take place in Ha Noi this March.

Both sides also agreed on strengthening the sharing of experience in border demarcation and landmark planting and striving to complete the work, thereby creating an important premise for the management of the shared border area for mutual development.

PM Phuc took the occasion to invite Cambodian PM Hun Sen to attend the sixth Summit of the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) and the GMS Business Forum, slated for March in Ha Noi.

Meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo, PM Phuc stated that the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries have been growing finely and effectively, especially since the official visit made to Indonesia by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, Nguyen Phu Trong, in August 2017.

The two leaders urged relevant ministries and sectors of both sides to actively implement the agreements reached during the Party chief’s Indonesia visit, whilst striving to realize the target of US$10 billion in two-way trade and working together in implementing the Declaration on Joint Vision on Defense Cooperation for the 2017-2022 period.

On the occasion, the leaders also agreed to work closely at the upcoming ASEAN Summits, contributing to enhancing intra-block cooperation and consolidating the central role of ASEAN in the region.
