VN, Russia enhance defense cooperation

VGP – The Vietnamese and Russian Ministries of Defense agreed to enhance the sharing of views on defense-security issues, promote defense cooperation and military techniques based on long-term, win-win and mutually beneficial foundations for the sake of each side’s people and for peace and stability in the world and the region.

The statement was made during the talks between Vietnamese Minister of Defense Ngo Xuan Lich and his Russian counterpart Shoygu Sergey Kuzhugetovich.

Welcoming the visit of his Russian counterpart from January 22-23 in the context of dynamic and effective development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership in general and defense ties in particular, Mr. Lich affirmed that the visit demonstrates the commitment of the defense ministry leaders to promoting bilateral defense cooperation, contributing to the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership of the two countries.

Minister Sergei Shoigu affirmed that Russia considers Viet Nam a traditional friend and an important strategic partner in the region.

Along with the thriving comprehensive strategic partnership, the bilateral defense cooperation has been expanded and reinforced through all-level delegation exchange, military technical and naval cooperation, UN peacekeeping activities, and experience sharing in military law, history, art, culture, and sports.

Within the official visit, Russian Minister Shoygu Sergey Kuzhugetovich met Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and State President Tran Dai Quang.
