PM calls for regulated management of reservoirs along Mekong river

N consistently expects stronger ties with Cambodia

Highlighting Viet Nam’s stance and contributions toward the MLC mechanism over the past time, the Vietnamese Government chief emphasized the major principles and goals that must be ensured so that the mechanism could make positive contributions to socio-economic development in each country and promote peace, stability and prosperity of the whole region.

He asked the relevant countries to enhance cooperation in protecting, managing and using the Mekong water resources in an effective and sustainable manner while developing infrastructure systems to facilitate the movement of goods and services in the region.

The summit, which drew the participation of the Government leaders of six countries, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, China and Viet Nam, aims to review the outcomes of cooperation since the first summit held in China in March 2016 and shape cooperation orientations for the coming time.

Regarding the future cooperation, the leaders reaffirmed their commitments to pursue goal of building the Mekong-Lancang region of peace, stability, sustainable and prosperous development.

They agreed that  the MLC needs to make more positive contributions to socio-economic development in the region and development gap reduction among the member countries.

The leaders approved the Phnom Penh Declaration and a five-year Action plan for the period of 2018-2022; agreed to foster cooperation in managing and using sustainably the Mekong water resources through policy dialogues, development and improvement of water resource monitoring system, information sharing, technical cooperation among others./.
