The current international air routes of the national flag carrier Viet Nam Airlines.

The project targets to develop international routes between Viet Nam and key markets such as the U.S., China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, Germany, Australia, the UK, and India, and other potential destinations such as the UEA and South Africa, and so on.

It also aims to combine aviation and tourism activities in international integration; uphold the role of businesses; promote social engagement in tourism. Especially, the tourism sector would make a breakthrough so that by 2020 Viet Nam would attract 17-20 million international guests. The tourism industry would make up 10-12% of GDP and export value earned via tourism would touch US$ 20 billion.

Especially, carriers are encouraged to develop direct air routes linking Viet Nam and key markets. They will get maximum incentives in aviation transport service prices, take-off and landing time and international airports.

By 2020, Vietnamese carriers will open new routes from Da Nang, Hai Phong, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Hue, and Can Tho to Chinese destinations such as Chongqing, Dalian, Haikou, Wuhan, Ningbo, Hainan, Xian, Fuchou, Guilin, Harbin, Lanchou, Shenyang, Xiamen, and others. They will raise the number of routes and utilize larger airlines to operate  flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Kunning, and Chengdu.

In the next three years, Vietnamese airlines will open flights to Ekaterinburg and Vladivostok; and routes between Da Nang province and Russia; exploit the route between Nha Trang and Moscow; and provide more flights between Ha Noi, HCMC, and Moscow.

By late 2018, Viet Nam will open a direct air route to San Francisco or Los Angeles./.
