Traffic Safety Year 2018 launched

Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy PM hailed active achievements in traffic safety and order over the recent years under the leadership of the Party and synchronous and resolute participation of the whole political system. 

In the phase from 2012-2017, traffic accidents reduced in the numbers of cases, deaths and injuries. In 2017, as many as 8,279 people died in traffic accidents. 

The Deputy PM asked to continue completing the institution on traffic safety and traffic culture in society, improving key transport infrastructure projects and reducing pressures on traffic in large cities such as Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. 

He required ensuring traffic safety for children, developing public transport in urban areas and inter-regional areas and enhancing the rate of progress of transport projects in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. 

Deputy PM Binh proposed accelerating science and technology application to increase effectiveness of transport management. 

The National Traffic Safety Committee has established the Traffic Safety Year 2018, themed “Traffic safety for children” with the aim of reducing from 5-10% of the numbers of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries compared to 2017.
