According to the report of the province, in 2017, 12 out of the 13 present norms were fulfilled. The economic growth only attained 7.76% (set plan of 8-9.5%), ranking fifth among 12 localities in the Central region, due to serious economic loss of nearly VND1,000 billion caused by floods and heavy rains.

The tourism-service sector made up around 57% of the province’s GRDP but only contributed 15% of the province’s budget. In 2018, the sector is expected to raise the contribution rate to 25-30% of the local budget.

Speaking at the working session, PM Phuc proposed the province make breakthroughs in tourism, service and economic connections as well as develop all kinds of private businesses, small and medium-sized enterprises, co-operatives, traditional villages and apply information technology in tourism development and heritage management.

He requested to resolutely improve the business and investment environment, closely connect Hue University with authorities at all levels and enterprises at locality to enhance innovation, apply technology, establish policies and launch planning to uphold the role of Hue University as the growth pole of the province.

It is necessary to mobilize all resources, especially from the private sector to upgrade socio-economic infrastructure, he said, highlighting the importance of proposing open and consistent and attractive policies.

He suggested the province focus on environmental protection, including the ecological and cultural environment as well as protecting tangible and intangible heritages.

He also hailed socio-economic development achievements the province gained in 2017 including the proportion of poor households decreasing 1.13%, the proportion of health insurance coverage accounting for 93.6% of the population and the forest coverage of 57%.
