Typhoon Tembin forecast to hit Southern VN

According to both national and international forecasts, the typhoon will be at its strongest when it hits Viet Nam’s Truong Sa archipelago on Sunday afternoon, with wind speeds over 130kph (81mph). 

The storm is approaching Southern Viet Nam at a speed of 25kph, and is forecast to hit provinces from Ba Ria-Vung Tau to Ca Mau carrying winds of around 90kph late night, December 25. 

Coastal provinces from Khanh Hoa to Kien Giang have issued offshore fishing ban while Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Soc TRang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, and Kien Giang are preparing mass evacuation plans.

The Government will convene a meeting in Ha Noi on December 24 to discuss ways to cope with this powerful storm, the 16^th recorded this year.

Official statistics show flooding and storms left 390 people dead or missing in Viet Nam in the first 11 months of 2017, and caused damage worth around US$2.34 billion./.
