Community & businesses urged to join social welfare development

VGP - The Government has mobilized all resources and shaken hands with the community to implement poverty reduction poverty and improve living standards for the poor.

Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam, the Head of the Central Committee on implementation of Resolution 70/NQ-CP on social policies in the 2012-2020 period presided over a meeting to sum up five-year implementation and define tasks for 2018.

After five years, the preferential policies on people with merits and social welfare have been perfected. Ministries and agencies worked to build legal documents and create favorably legal system, thus contributing to ensure social equality.

Preset norms on poverty rate and poverty rate in urban areas were fulfilled even exceeded. 

In the reviewed period, the number of social insurance coverage increased 3.2 million, reaching 13.8 million in 2017 (accounting for 25.76% of the labor force). The rate of population accessing clean water in rural areas in line with standards of the Ministry of Health increased gradually to 88.2%. 

As of late 2017, 2.78 million of people or 3% of the population benefited from monthly social subsidy in cash. Universal educational coverage was implemented from kindergarten to secondary school levels. 

In the 2012-2017 period, the project on vocational training for rural laborers covered 3 million people. Housing program for poor households supported 531,000 households in the first phase and 311,000 others in the second phase. 

Addressing the meeting, Deputy PM Dam assessed that ministries, agencies, and localities have properly taken care of people with merits and supported victims of natural disasters. However, the Government noticed the importance of mobilizing the community and business circle to develop social welfare, develop economics, and ensure national defense.

The Deputy PM asked ministries, agencies, and localities to develop economics, generate more jobs; renovate technology; improve human training; and better labor productivity. 

Ministries, agencies, and localities were requested to review poverty reduction policies; take care of people’s health; support education for ethnic minority groups./.
