DPM embarks on official visit to RoK

VGP - Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh is paying an official visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) from December 19-21 at the invitation of Korean FM Kang Kyung-wha.

The tour is of significance as it coincides with the 25thanniversary of diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and the RoK. 

On December 20, Deputy PM Minh received President of the RoK-Viet Nam Friendship Association Choi Young-joo, the Honorary General Consuls of Viet Nam in the RoK’s Busan-Kyeongnam and Gwangju-Cheonam regions, and former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and visited the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK. 

At the reception for President of the RoK-Viet Nam Friendship Association Choi Young-joo, Deputy PM Minh praised the role and contribution of the Association to the developments in the bilateral ties over the past time. 

The Deputy PM recommended the Association to conduct a string of activities including promotion of trade ties; cultural exchanges, tourism, people-to-people exchanges, and facilitation for the overseas Vietnamese community in the RoK.  

President Choi Young-joo pledged to spare no effort to advertise the land and people of Viet Nam and serve as a bridge for more Korean investors to do business in Viet Nam, thus contributing to cementing and deepening the strategic partnership in a more practical and efficient manner.

Meeting with the Honorary General Consuls of Viet Nam in the RoK’s Busan-Kyeongnam and Gwangju-Cheonam regions, Mr. Minh thanked their good sentiments and meaningful assistance to cooperative activities between Viet Nam and the RoK. 

Deputy PM Minh hoped that in the coming time, the two General Consuls would closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK to hold more practical events to broaden economic ties; protect citizens; and beef up local linkages.  

The two General Consuls vowed to spare no effort to promote the bilateral economic ties and provide support for the overseas Vietnamese community here.  

Deputy PM Minh highly valued the contributions of Mr. Ban Ki-moon as the former Korean FM and former UN Secretary General especially in the bilateral ties, settlement of global challenges like environment, climate change, poverty reduction, UN’s support for Viet Nam in the fulfillment of the UN Millennium Development Goals./.
