PM works with An Giang, Lao Cai authorities

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 6 held working sessions with authorities of the southern province of An Giang and the northern province of Lao Cai to tackle difficulties and obstacles in socio-economic development for each locality.

At the working session with authorities of An Giang Province, the PM consented with the province’s orientation of regarding tourism as a key economic sector, asking the province to re-organize tours and tourism channels. 

He highlighted the need to exploit land effectively in line with protecting national defense and security, adding that the province should take advantages of agriculture and promote restructuring for sustainable development in the context of climate change. 

The province reported to the PM the establishment of Ba Chua Xu spiritual cultural tourism area- Nui Sam cable car system in Chau Doc City, which has attracted more than six million visitors per year. The project, worth VND486 billion, is expected to be completed by January 2018.

The same day, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc instructed protecting the forest and maintaining regional culture at the working session with Lao Cai Province’s authorities. 

Earlier, the PM signed a Decision recognizing Sa Pa City as a national tourism site and agreed to establish Sa Pa an international standard tourism area at a working session with authorities of Lao Cai Province in May 2017. 

In 2017, Sa Pa has welcomed 2.5 million visitors. The figure is expected to reach four million by 2020 and eight million by 2030. 

To expand the urban area and establish Sa Pa national tourism site, in 2010-2015, Sa Pa attracted more than 20 large-scale projects with a total social investment exceeding VND15,000 billion. 

The total investment heads to attain the total investment of VND50,000 billion in 2016-2020, three times higher than in 2010-2015. 

The PM hoped that the province will take the lead among localities in the Northwest, not only in poverty reduction but also in balancing its budget in the future.
