ILO and its partners consented on three national priorities in the future, including the enhancement of sustainable employment, poverty reduction through the expansion of social security to all people and establishment of effective labor market management strictly following labor principles and rights.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung asserted that the Vietnamese Government is concentrating on employment, human resource development and social security in the context of international integration, sustainable development and ensuring rights for laborers, businesses and society.
He suggested the ILO and social partners set up a plan to realize the cooperative framework and provide assistance for completing the labor legal system and establish a harmony labor relationship at businesses.

ILO Viet Nam Director Chang-Hee Lee said the 2017-2021 program should shift focus from resources to knowledge, with assistance offered simultaneously to the Government, employees and employers at the local level to boost their capacity in preparation for sustainable changes, adding that the ILO is committed to joining hands with its partners to achieve common goals.

The total expenditure for the 2006-2016 period of the program was US$58.5 million.
