VN celebrates 20 year of Internet development

VGP - Over 20 years of development, the Internet in Viet Nam has made impressive changes in various areas, permeating into every part of daily life and changing people’s habits, said Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan.

Mr. Tuan made the point at an event marking Internet Day 2017 which was held by the Viet Nam Internet Association (VIA) on the 20th anniversary of the Internet in Viet Nam in Ha Noi on November 22. 

So far, Viet Nam has developed  modern telecom infrastructure foundation nationwide. 3G and 4G networks have been available from urban to rural areas even mountainous and islands areas. A half of the Vietnamese population have accessed  the Internet. By 2020, Viet Nam would enter the group of countries with the highest rate of mobile subscribers. 

The Ministry of Information and Communications is also trying to promote the development of information technology, the digital content industry and the application of added value on the Internet, along with the development of such fields  as advertising, games, e-commerce and e-payment.

“Along with the achievements of Internet infrastructure businesses such as Viettel, VNPT, FPT or CMC, many big digital content companies like VTC, VNG and VCCorp have secured firm positions domestically and are reaching out to the world.  

Many applications developed by domestic businesses and individuals have resonated internationally, such as Flappy Bird and Monkey Junior.

In governmental agencies, hundreds of online public services have been deployed at level 3 and level 4./.
