A number of activities took place during the event, including a networking programme, dialogues between domestic and foreign cashew businesses, conferences on international cashew cooperation and women’s role in the cashew sector.

Stating at the conference, deputy minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh stressed that after 29 years of export, the cashew industry has affirmed its position making Viet Nam the world’s largest cashew nut export and processing nation.

Businesses have taken the initiative in studying and manufacturing cashew processing equipment and technologies to replace import items. Many technical advances have been applied; contributing in improving productivity and quality, reducing costs and increasing cashew production efficiency.

On the occasion of the conference, Viet Nam Cashew Association (Vinacas) signed a cooperation agreement with African Cashew Alliance, Guinea Bissau Chamber of Commerce and National Cashew Association of Nigeria.

Statistics released by Vinacas showed that Viet Nam earned US$2.98 billion from exporting 294,000 tonnes of cashew nuts in the first 10 months of 2017, year-on-year rises of 0.4% and 25.6%, respectively.

The sector is expected to ship abroad 330,000 tons of cashew nuts this year, raking in US$3.3 billion – the highest amount so far.

With the figure, the country will continue retain a lion share of the global cashew nut market which is estimated at US$5.5 billion.
