State President meets Philippine, Mexican Presidents

VGP – State President Tran Dai Quang on November 9 held bilateral meetings with Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, who were in the central city of Da Nang to attend the APEC High Level Week.

At the meeting with Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the leaders highly appraised the two nations’ Strategic Partnership over the recent years in such areas as politics, defense, security, economics, trade and investment. 

They consented to direct their functional agencies to realize reached agreements and improve the effectiveness of their cooperative mechanisms as well as maintain delegation exchanges and people—to-people exchanges. 

The same occasion, State President Quang congratulated the Philippine President and Government on liberating Marawi city in the South Philippines from terrorists and announced that Viet Nam is carrying out procedures to supply the aid of 200 tons of rice for local people in Marawi. 

Viet Nam is willing to cooperate with the Philippines in such areas as defense, security, struggling against terrorism and pirates, high-tech crimes, drug and human trafficking and further cooperation in search and rescue at sea, affirmed the Vietnamese State leader. 

He proposed the Philippines take measures to ensure the lives of the Vietnamese fishermen kidnapped in the Philippines and actively investigate and release information about the deaths of two Vietnamese fishermen. 

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte expressed his thanks to the Vietnamese Government for rice aid for Marwi City, committing to realizing measures to protect the lives of the kidnapped Vietnamese fishermen in the Philippines and soon releasing Vietnamese fishermen. 

He welcomed Vietnamese investors and visitors to the Philippines. 

The two sides agreed to enhance the central role of ASEAN in coping with huge issues related to security and benefits of each nation and the region. 

Regarding the East Sea issue, the two sides highlighted the importance of maintaining maritime and aeronautical peace, stability, security, assenting to settle disagreements through peaceful measures in line with the international regulations, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982. 

During his meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, State President Tran Dai Quang conveyed deep sympathy to the Mexican Government and people over the serious consequences caused by the earthquakes in recent September. 

He hailed the active developments in the two nations’ two-way trade turnover of US$2.3 billion in 2016, 10 times higher than in 2006, expressing his thanks to Mexico for recognizing Viet Nam as the market economy and the Pacific Alliance for inviting Viet Nam as an observer nation for the bloc. 

The two leaders were unanimous about ways to strengthen the bilateral relationship in fields of politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, investment, culture and science-technology. 

They stressed the importance of maintaining and upholding the effectiveness of current cooperative mechanisms, completing the legal framework through negotiations and signing of cooperative documents and creating a favorable investment and business environment to promote connections among their business communities as well as further cooperating at multi-lateral cooperative frameworks.
