DPM Minh meets with Bruneian FM

VGP – Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh met with Bruneian Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Lim Jock Seng who was in Viet Nam for the APEC Summit Week on November 9 in Da Nang.

At the meeting, both sides expressed their satisfaction at the positive developments in the bilateral ties and highly spoke of the outcomes of the second meeting of the Viet Nam- Brunei Commission on bilateral cooperation this February in Ha Noi; agreed to co-chair the third in Burnei in 2018. 

They vowed to work closely especially in such area as politics, security, national defense, maritime cooperation, and education. 

Deputy PM Minh proposed the two sides maintained existing cooperative mechanisms and research new agreements on potential aspects namely tourism, labor, aviation, as well as the agro-fishery sector. 

FM Jock Seng approved of early negotiations for a Memorandum of Understanding on labor cooperation, opening of a direct air route linking Brunei and Ha Noi, and food cooperation. 

The guest leader also promised to work with Viet Nam to properly handle the issue of Vietnamese fishermen and fishing vessel and protect the legitimate rights of Vietnamese citizens in Brunei.

The two leaders took the occasion to discuss regional and international issues of common concern especially at multilateral forums like ASEAN, APEC, ASEM, and the UN. 

FM Lim Jock praised the initiatives of Viet Nam and pledged to support Viet Nam-the host country of APEC 2017 to successfully accomplish the mission./.
