Target program on climate change response, green growth approved

The program is aimed at enabling the nation to use its capacity and measures to adapt to climate change, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and ensure safety for people and their assets. 

It also heads to strengthen human and natural system’s climate change response capacity, green growth and low-carbon economy, towards sustainable development. 

By 2020, as many as 30 projects in fields of protecting the infrastructure, lives and properties of people in the landslide prone areas and 42 projects on coastal mangrove forests, watershed protection and a number of prioritized projects will be launched. 

Some urgent projects will be prioritized, aiming to cope with climate change, and negative impacts on production and people’s lives, focusing on such areas as the Mekong Delta, Central Highlands, coastal provinces and mountainous localities in the North. 

Four components of the program consist of (1) realization of some tasks on the implementation of the Paris Agreement and improvement of community’s awareness on climate change adaption, (2) investment in climate change response projects, (3) establishment of institutions and policies and supervision and evaluation of the green growth components and (4) enhancement of green growth.
