VN-Singapore Connectivity Ministerial Meeting held

VGP - The 13th Viet Nam-Singapore Connectivity Ministerial Meeting was organized in Ha Noi on October 17 to expand cooperation and improve effectiveness of bilateral investment.

Within the framework of the meeting, the two sides evaluated the implementation of cooperative agreements in six areas including investment, finance, information technology and communications, education and training, transport and trade and services. 

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed that Viet Nam attaches importance to the relationship with Singapore, regarding Singapore as top partner in Asia and Southeast Asia. 

The nation has improved its investment and business environment, consolidated belief for foreign investors and strengthened connections with global economy, he said, adding that the two nations should enhance information exchanges and coordinate to address arising issues in the future. 

In the first seven months of 2017, two-way trade between Viet Nam and Singapore hit US$5 billion, up 16.4% year-on-year.

Singapore currently has more than 1,910 valid investment projects in Viet Nam, with total registered capital of over US$41.38 billion, making it the third leading foreign investor in the country. 

In the January-August period, Singapore poured US$3.93 billion of registered capital into Viet Nam. Of the sum, US$2.84 billion came to newly-approved projects, while US$718 million was added to existing projects.
