In turn, National Assembly Vice Chairman Do Ba Ty said ties between Viet Nam and the U.S. have developed across the fields of politics, economy, trade, science-technology, culture, education, national defence-security since 2013.
He suggested that the U.S. Congress and government continue boosting two-way trade, including facilitating the export of Vietnamese catfish to the U.S. market.
Viet Nam hopes that the U.S. would continue assisting the country in improving the capacity of its coast guards as well as search and rescue efforts, and promoting national defence industry, with priority given to shipbuilding, maritime supervision, training of officers, English language and military medicine, he said.
