The project will be implemented from 2017 to 2021 with a total investment capital of more than US$3.75 million in nonrefundable official development assistance (ODA) from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The project aims to support the building, finalization and implementation of laws, policies, programs and services relating to the prevention and response to gender-based violence, domestic violence and prostitution, using an evidence-based and human rights-based approach.

Under the project, a social research on the behavior change with regards to the preference of sons will be conducted, serving as a premise for the building and amendment of the Law on Gender Equality, the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control, and other relevant policies.

The project will also issue standards on gender-based violence prevention and response, while a system of collecting and reporting gender-based violence data online will be developed, piloted and implemented.

Media campaigns, policy advocacy, behavior change efforts and some models with farmers’ involvement, with regards to gender-based violence prevention and response, will be carried out. Scientific evidence will be implemented in service of the building of a law featuring prostitution issues, in addition to the deployment of activities to support the development of this law. Also, the project will help to improve Viet Nam’s capabilities in building and implementing policies on gender equity, domestic violence prevention and control, and prostitution issues.
