Over US$7.7 million to support domestic violence prevention and response

VGP – The Prime Minister has recently approved the investment plan for the project “Supporting the development and implementation of policies and programs to prevent and respond to gender-based and domestic violence, and to handle the issue of prostitution using evidence and a human right-based approach”.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) is the governing body of the project, which is funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The project aims to conduct a social research on the behavior change with regards to the preference of sons, which will serve as a premise for the building and amendment of the Law on Gender Equality, the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control, and other relevant policies.

The project will also issue standards on gender-based violence prevention and response, while a system of collecting and reporting gender-based violence data online will be developed, piloted and implemented.

Under the project, scientific evidence will be implemented in service of the building of a law featuring prostitution issues, in addition to the deployment of activities to support the development of this law. Also, the project will help to improve Vietnam’s capabilities in building and implementing policies on gender equity, domestic violence prevention and control, and prostitution issues.

The funding for the project will be over US$7.7 million in nonrefundable official development assistance (ODA), including more than US$2.3 million in available capital and over US$1.4 million in mobilized capital.

The PM has asked the MOLISA to review and ensure that the project does not coincide with other projects using foreign and State budget capital; build an appropriate mechanism to manage the project; and clearly define the responsibility of the governing body and relevant agencies in the implementation of the project, aiming to ensure the schedule and efficiency of the project.
