Gov't chief receives Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hosted a reception for the Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, in Ha Noi on October 3, during which the leader affirmed that Viet Nam always remembers Cuba’s wholehearted support in the past.

Welcoming the Cuban minister to Viet Nam for the 35th meeting of the Viet Nam-Cuba Inter-governmental Committee, PM Phuc emphasized that Viet Nam and Cuba are the two brotherly countries with close bonds and a tradition of friendly cooperation.

He highly appreciated the Cuban Government for creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest in Cuba across various fields, whilst affirming Viet Nam’s support for its enterprises to boost investment in the areas of production, consumer goods and agriculture in the Caribbean country.

Sharing Viet Nam’s experience, the PM stated that Viet Nam considers the development of businesses, including State-own enterprises and private companies, as a factor that decides the development of the economy.

Viet Nam is willing and will do its utmost to share its socio-economic development experience with Cuba, he said, expressing his wish that functional agencies of both countries would accelerate cooperation and implement the agreements reached by the two sides’ leaders as well as the measures proposed at the meeting of the Inter-governmental Committee.

For his part, Minister Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz informed PM Phuc of the outcomes of the 35thmeeting of the Viet Nam-Cuba Inter-governmental Committee.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed economic and trade ties between the two nations in the past few years, whilst putting forward measures aiming to facilitate bilateral cooperation in the time ahead, he said.

The guest thanked the Vietnamese Government for continuously facilitating Vietnamese companies’ investment in Cuba, suggesting that the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development open its representative office in Cuba in order to create favorable conditions for businesses’ trade activities.

The same day, Minister Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz paid courtesey call on Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung.

Deputy PM Dung has spoken highly of the operational outcomes of the Viet Nam-Cuba Inter-governmental Committee, whilst hailing this as a suitable and effective cooperation mechanism between the two countries.

He urged the two sides to make optimal efforts in order to effectively implement the agreements reached at each meeting of the Inter-governmental Committee.

Earlier on October 2, Vietnamese Minister of Construction Pham Hong Ha and Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo MalmiercaDiaz co-chaired the opening of the 35th meeting of the Viet Nam-Cuba Inter-governmental Committee.

At the meeting, the two sides evaluate the outcomes reached in the minutes of the 34th meeting, whilst agreeing on specific cooperation contents and measures, aiming to strengthen the operational efficiency of the Inter-governmental Committee as well as the cooperation efficiency between the two countries in the time ahead.

The meeting of the Viet Nam-Cuba Inter-governmental Committee is held annually and alternately in each country.
